Highlights

Overview

Crossing several obstacles, climbing on the steep slopes, withstanding sunny mornings to blizzard and walking past meandering tracks towards the 6476m, Mera Peak Climbing is surely a trip you don’t want to miss.

Mera Peak Climbing (6,476m/21,246ft) is a journey to Nepal’s highest trekking peak that lies on the edge of the Khumbu Region. It is one of the most alluring trekking peaks in Nepal as it involves a culturally stimulating journey through remote quaint villages and forests, followed by a gentle climb to the summit. The Mera Peak consists of three main summits - Mera North, Mera Central, and Mera South. The successful summits of Mera Peak are rewarded with a spectacular panorama of five 8,000m peaks - Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga as well as other Himalayan peaks.

If you have already done a high altitude trek and manage well, then Mera Peak Climbing is the perfect next adventure. It is a challenging trekking peak due to its altitude, but the technical mountaineering skills requirement is very basic. This climbing is ideal for those with moderate mountaineering experience, an average physical fitness enough to hike for 6-7 hours a day in hilly terrain and a keen sense of adventure. Also, you will require and previous experience of ice-ax and crampons. First-time users of these tools will be given instruction on their use below base camp.

The trip initiates in Kathmandu where we make preparations and enjoy the diversity of this ancient city before embarking on a flight into the town of Lukla, the famous entrance way to the Khumbu region. The expedition starts with a stunning approach up the Arun Valley which takes you away from all the crowds on the Everest trek. Then the trail leads you through the traditional Sherpa villages of the Solu Khumbu and the blue pine, pristine rhododendron, and oak forest trails of the Hinku Valley.

Further ahead in the trail we have the beautiful views of alpine lakes and Peak Mera Glacier and explore the trail ahead towards the peak. Continuing further will take you through off-the-beaten-tracks and settlements of Thangnak and Khare and finally to the base of Mera Peak. Then we ascend to a high camp just below Mera La and prepare for our attempt on the Central summit of Mera Peak. Climbing at this altitude is challenging, but the incredible views of the highest mountains on earth are more than satisfying your aspirations on this fine Himalayan climb.

Observing the wonderful summit of Mera Peak on the way, we climb through the glacial earth, rocky terrains and snowfields with a straightforward and typically steep ascent to succeed in the height of the scenic Mera Peak. We shall take some obligatory summit shots and descend down to High Camp, Base Camp, and Khare. Through the small settlements with few teahouses and inexperienced lush scenery, we come to Lukla and then to Kathmandu.

March to June and October to December are the best season for Mera Peak mounting expedition. The weather will be just perfect to climb neither hot nor cold and low chances of rainfall also. And if you trek in the festival season then you can experience the traditions and culture of highland Sherpa tribe communities. This climb is perfect for climbers who seek adventure and thrill.
